Perform software updates on the DR700BMW

The DR700BMW DAB+ receiver module is updatable. To perfome such an update, you need the following parts:

- Micro-USB cable

- PC or Laptop running some Windows(TM) 7,8 or 10 (any version)

- Updater application from Cartain

- the firmware file update.bin

Step 1:

Connect the DR700BMW by the USB cable to your Windows PC / Laptop. This should install a new COM port on your system. If your are asked for a driver, you can downlod it here here.

Step 2:

Download the Updater Program onto your PC or Laptop and launch it. You should only launch it AFTER the USB cable has been connected and AFTER it has been rekognised by the system and the driver has properly installed before.

Step 3:

Choose the COM port from the list, that has been added by connecting the DR700BMW via USB. If you are unsure which one is the correct one, first start the Updater Program with disconnected DR700BMW. THen close it, connect the DR700BMW again and start the Updater program again. You should see now an additional COM port. Choose this one.

Step 4:

Click on "Open File" and choose the update.bin file your have downloaded here. The latest firmware is from 13th Feb. 2020.

Step 5:

The DR700BMW must be connected to 12V power (from car or from any other power source 10 to 15V DC). It is not needed, to connect it to a MOST car network for the update. ATTENTION: with no active MOST network connected, the DR700 will fall into deep power down mode (sleep) after a minute.It is not possible to perform udpates, when it is in sleep mode.

Click on "Start Update". Don't worry, interrupted or corrupt update files will not destroy the DR700BMW. An update is only activated, if it has fully and error-free been transferred into the device. If you are experiencing any troubles, disconnect it, reconnect it and try again.
